Happy Hour Classes – Fall 2011
Tired of traffic? Don’t drive, be creative! Make time for your inner artist—Taught by some of the most talented and professional artists, TeAda’s popular class series is back this fall with small group classes that offer a great amount of individual attention and reduced prices for artists and people who just want to learn new performance skills.
Writing for Performance
Mondays, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
September 12 through November 14
Teachers: Kristina Wong, D’Lo, Shyamala Moorty, Kristina Wong, Traci Kato-Kiriyama, Ova Saopeng, Cynthia Lee and Leilani Chan
Led by a top notch line up of performance artists and playwrights including Kristina Wong, D’Lo, Shyamala Moorty, Traci Kato-Kiriyama and others, “Writing for Performance,” allows you to learn from some of the most renowned in the industry. This series of workshops offers artists a rare opportunity to develop a new performance work though classes with established playwrights, performance artists, poets and choreographers. Participants who attend all 10 sessions and present a 5-10 min new work in the final class will be eligible to apply for TEADAWORKS 2012.
Beginning Acting with Eddie Padilla
Tuesdays, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
September 13 through November 15 (final performance date)
Teacher: Edward Padilla
This class teaches the basics of acting, and challenges continuing actors to refine their craft through voice work, movement exercises, and text analysis. Using a combination of different approaches to acting, Eddie helps students understand the basics of the craft and have a meaningful connection to their work. Students will be expected to participate in a final performance for the last class on November 15.
Edward Padilla has numerous stage, T.V. and film credits. He received his BA in Theater from USC School of Theater where he received the David Dukes Scholarship for Acting. He studied shakespeare with British American Drama Academy at Oxford University and was Artistic Director for Casa 0101 from June ’06 – March ’09, and is currently President of the Board of Directors.
The Voice Box
Wednesdays, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
September 14 through November 16
Teacher: Randy Guiaya
Through technical exercises, one will discover how to harness their unique vocal talents and demonstrate them in a performance setting. This class is suitable for singers of all levels.
Randy Guiaya is a graduate of USC’s Thornton School of Music, where he majored in Voice. He has taught in Los Angeles for over 16 years and is a full member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. In addition, he frequently works as an accompanist, vocal coach and music director.
Hip Hop and Combat with Kimo
Thursdays, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
September 15 through November 17
Teacher: Kimo Keoke
Fitness oriented movement for theatrical performance. From Swing, Lindy Hop, Popping, Locking, Hip Hop, and Jazz Dance to Stage Combat and Martial Arts. Each class begins with a fitness warm-up influenced by various styles of dance and martial arts, followed up with a different technique every week that will accommodate all levels, especially beginners.

COST $200 for full series of ten-classes (No drop-ins, except for Voice Box & Hip Hop and Combat)
PRE-REGISTRATION for classes no later than September 9th.
Limited number of $100 volunteer scholarships available on a first come, first serve basis.
Must register by August 29th. Volunteer training will take place on August 31st.
