ABOUT THE CONFERENCE AND FESTIVAL
The Consortium of Asian American Theaters and Artists (CAATA) is excited to announce the launching of registration and the availability of passes for the Third National Asian American Theater Conference (June 20-22) and the Third National Asian American Theater Festival (June 16-19 and 23-26) to be hosted in Los Angeles.
TeAda is proud to be co-hosting the National Asian American Theater Conference and Festival with East West Players in downtown Los Angeles this summer. Make your plans to be in LA June 16-26. Conference and Festival Passes and tickets are now on sale. A ConFest pass gets you into BOTH the conference panels and special events, as well as access to all Festival performances. The Festival Pass gets you in to see all 8 performances and discounts at partner theaters throughout the city.
This year’s Conference and Festival takes on the idea of “New Directions,” pertaining to the future of Asian American Theatre and moving forward in a strategic way. The conference will give theatre artists, practitioners and administrators a chance to network and share their experiences through different conference tracks: Artistic Practice, Directing, Nuts and Bolts and Social Justice. Panels range from workshops to resource sharing to open discussions.
Some panelists and workshop instructors include performance artist Kristina Wong, playwright Velina Hasu Houston, spoken word artist Beau Sia, director Jon Lawrence Rivera, as well as artistic directors, marketing directors and community leaders from all over the country.
The Festival is comprised of 14 shows over the course of 10 days, with a majority of the performances taking place at the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy in Little Tokyo and Inner City Arts in Downtown Los Angeles. Out of town artists and companies include Rasa Nova Theatre (San Francisco), The National Asian American Theatre Company (New York), Denise Uyehara, Navarasa Dance Theatre (Massachusetts), Soomi Kim (New York), Jason Magbo Perez (San Diego) and May Lee Yang (Minneapolis). Local artists and companies featured in the festival include Post Natyam Collective, Kennedy Kabasares, Traci Kato-Kiriyama, Prince Gomolvilas, Brandon Patton, East West Players, The Colony Theatre, The Geffen Playhouse and Company of Angels.
