COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

TEADA PRODUCTIONS’ COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS

For the past decade, we have been collaborating with The Program for Torture Victims (PTV), a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that rebuilds the lives of immigrant survivors of war, torture, violence, and persecution from over 70 countries who have stood up for freedom, democracy, and human dignity.

For three weeks in February of 2024, TeAda partnered with PTV for a workshop combining the magic of theater-making, ensemble creation, personal storytelling and solidarity building. We hosted these workshops at PTV's former office in Koreatown, and TeAda Studio in Mid City.

On February 17th, the PTV fellows performed in front of a live audience in TeAda Studio, unearthing stories centering belonging, migration, courage, resilience, and redefining home. We sincerely look forward to continuing our work with The Program for Torture Victims in 2025, and we encourage our TeAda community to learn more about this important organization @ ptvla.org.

At TeAda Productions, we are in continuous search for more community partnerships in carrying out our work in community arts, solidarity building, and co-building creative courage. If you would like to get in touch with us about future collaborations as it pertains to Local Programs, Workshops, and Events, please fill out the form in the link below or email ova@teada.org.

WHY:

TeAda methodology emphasizes storytelling as a tool for social justice, healing and solidarity among communities of color and marginalized groups.

WITHIN THE WORKSHOP:

Under the guidance of seasoned TeAda Teaching Artists, workshop participants are immersed in storytelling circles, theater-making, and ensemble-building activities with a local partner organization and a diverse group of fellow participants. All participants undergo hands on training in specific TeAda methodology with an awareness around re-indigenizing and de-colonizing theater.

THE GOAL:

This workshop allows for the exploration and development of authentic storytelling from and by the community, with the goal of encouraging healing and inter-community solidarity. Participants in the workshop walk through a process that involves personal storytelling, theater-making activities, image creation, scene creation, and the workshop culminates in a public performance for guests.

Much like the development of TeAda’s touring plays, this workshop process may be the first step in a much longer journey that culminates in a theater production and/or touring play.
