TeAda Productions is excited to announce CreAtive Healing Lab (CHL) which will take place from March through June, 2025. As part of this series, 7 all-star guest teaching artists will facilitate 7 workshops that combine the arts, social justice, and collective healing. The goal of CHL is to be a sanctuary-third place for community to gather, process current events, imagine sustainable futures, community-build, and heal through sharing space and creating art.
The sixth workshop of this series is titled “LIVED IN: Character Building Through Self-Exploration” and will be led by Tiffany Ike.
About the workshop: Our favorite characters tend to be ones who feel memorable, distinct, and genuinely one of a kind. As a writer, you are also all of those things. This is a workshop that explores both the character and the writer. It is a workshop for storytellers who are wanting to develop fictional characters that move on the page. But it will also allow you to reflect on what moves you. From the personal archives to community frameworks, we will engage in the use of play, self exploration, and history to practice developing subtext, consider how we enter the page, and writing dynamic characters to the point where we are simply witnesses… a scribe to their story. NOTE: All participants must bring one item of theirs (an artifact) that tells a story.
About the facilitator: Tiffany Ike is a multidisciplinary artist and scholar from Houston, TX. Through her research and art practice, she utilizes different mediums including spoken word poetry, theater, visual art, and filmmaking, to discuss ideas of faith, history, and liberation in all its forms. She has a degree from the University of Wisconsin by way of the First Wave Program, and a Masters in Writing and Producing for Television from LMU. She studies the evolution of the Black sitcom and examines television as a historical record, works as a producer and assistant director for multiple film and tv projects, and is currently a lecturer at her alma mater. She has a background in youth development, ice cream is her meal of choice, and every once in a while relives her hoop dreams in the gym.
