CHL Workshop: "Words Move Through Me: A Writing Workshop Utilizing Movement" - Los Angeles, CA

  • West Los Angeles United States (map)

TeAda Productions is excited to announce CreAtive Healing Lab (CHL) which will take place from March through June, 2025. As part of this series, 7 all-star guest teaching artists will facilitate 7 workshops that combine the arts, social justice, and collective healing. The goal of CHL is to be a sanctuary-third place for community to gather, process current events, imagine sustainable futures, community-build, and heal through sharing space and creating art.

The first workshop of this series is titled “Words Move Through Me: A Writing Workshop Utilizing Movement” and will be led by Kiki Rivera.

About the workshop: Our bodies hold the words we need to write our plays, our short stories, our lives. We will explore identity, loss, and rebirth as they live as words in our bodies. Perhaps there are no words yet, but there is movement. Together we will work through what needs to be expressed. The ultimate goal will be to start writing that tough scene or short story weʻve been intending to write but havenʻt had the courage to pen.

About the facilitator: Kiki Rivera (he/they) is an internationally produced theatre artist, educator, and arts activist. They hold a BA in Theatre and MFA in Playwriting from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM). Original plays include Faʻalavelave: The Interruption. Published plays include “Puzzy” (featuring New Zealand Playwright Victor Rodger) in the anthology Samoan Queer Lives, To “Our Black and Brown Babies of Ocean and Islands” in the anthology We’re Not Neutral, and “Kumu Kukui” in Lighting the Way: An Anthology of Short Plays About The Climate Crises. Kiki’s work focuses on the intersections of cultural, sexual, and gender identity within the context of post-colonial society and is one of many Pacific Islander voices in the diaspora who believes in the value of self-reflective storytelling from a contemporary indigenous perspective.
